Laurie Brooks

Obituary of Laurie Alison Brooks

Please share a memory of Laurie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Laurie Brooks on November 25, 2025, in Maple Ridge, BC. Laurie was born on November 17, 1954, in Calgary, AB.

She was predeceased by her father Albert McAlpine, mother Jean Hilton, and brother Jim. Laurie has been reunited with the love of her life Robin. She is survived by her loving family, daughter Jaime (Jeff), sons Colin and Jordan (Chelsey) and cherished grandchildren Mackenzie (Rene), Hunter, Jamieson, Piper, and Georgia Cardinal

Laurie grew up all over the world being the daughter of an RCAF enlisted father but finally after years of living in France, returning to Halifax and then the final move to Maple Ridge she settled for good. She met Robin (a good-looking guitar player from Maple Ridge Senior Secondary) even though she graduated from Garibaldi Senior Secondary. She and Robin were married on April 13, 1974, and together shared a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Passionate about sailing, they were proud members of the False Creek Yacht Club and made their home on the Brooks family turkey farm for more than 25 years before finally moving into their dream home in 2011.

Laurie will be remembered for her larger-than-life love of Scotland and all things plaid, her kindness, and her thoughtfulness toward everyone she knew. Her early years as a mom were spent in Girl Guides as a leader but of course her overachieving nature soon led her to the position of district commissioner. Her sense of adventure (and major convincing of our dad) took us on epic car trips like Disneyland and Anchorage, Alaska and sailing to Desolation Sound. She was a pillar of the community starting a 43-year career with the Bank of Nova Scotia. She floated from branches in Maple Ridge, Calgary, Coquitlam, Port Moody, Mission, Pitt Meadows all while rising through the ranks from teller to Assistant Branch Manager. Her passion though was solving money crimes and finally landed her dream position of auditor downtown at the Business Services Centre. She retired in 2017 with no regrets and huge list of new friends that she has kept up with throughout the years. Travel finally became a passion when she beat back her fear of flying, and she managed her lifelong dream of touring Scotland, Ireland and Wales all by herself and of course in grand style! She was planning a return next year and introducing her granddaughter Piper to the mystical world of European shopping by helping her fundraising efforts through garage sales and bake sales. No matter what she did she left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She was a truly beautiful person, inside and out and will be deeply missed. As her family we only hope that we may live up to the aspirations she had for all of us.
