Loretta Lorraine Huff Obituary

Huff, Loretta Lorraine

It is with great sadness that the family of Loretta Huff announce

her passing on February 4th, 2026 in Port Moody, BC. Loretta was born in Edmonton AB, on November 18, 1930.

Predeceased by her parents Arthur and Clara Huff, her brothers Arthur and Ralph and her sisters Irene and Evelyn

Survived by her brother John (Jack) Huff and his wife Jeannine, her many nieces and nephews, Claire Gregoris, Gerard Huff, Greg Huff, Elizabeth Huff, Linda McIssac, Shelley Colcy, Kevin Keats, Brenda Sharp, and many great & great great nieces and nephews.

Loretta grew up on  dairy farm in Edmonton with her parents and sisters and brothers. After she graduated from high school she went into nursing, training for 3 years at a hospital in Edmonton. Once she had graduated, she then moved to Vancouver with a few other nurses and her sister Irene, to work in several hospitals in the Vancouver area. Her favourite story was when she went on trip to Australia where she worked for 2 years as a nurse. This was the start of her many adventures. She always spoke of her trip back from Australia on a freighter boat and how they stopped in Asia, bringing gifts to her family from there. Later in life she made several other trips abroad to satisfy her adventurous heart.

Once back from Australia, there were jobs posted in Kamloops for public health nurses, and she jumped at the chance to move there. She got her Public Health Nursing degree from UBC and started her long career in Kamloops.

Kamloops became her home for life. She loved the sun and heat it offered and as an avid outdoors person, it was central to so many trails, lakes and mountains for her adventurous soul. She joined the outdoors club, hiked, skied, canoed and camped throughout BC and Alberta. She made many friends in her clubs in Kamloops.

Loretta was very proud of her purchase of her home in Kamloops in the 70’s when most women had trouble getting financing. The house was on the edge of a hill with so much wildlife behind her. Deer constantly visited her beloved gardens. She was an avid gardener and health food enthusiast. There are many memories of her purple beans and flowers in her salads to the astonishment of her young nieces and nephews. She lived in her house till she was 90.

Her family remembers her always joining the family on camping trips and holidays especially in the Okanagan. She was the Aunt who took us on hikes and showed us so many adventures.

She was also the Aunt who showed up early each fall with a large bag of Christmas gifts for each family of nieces and nephews. She spent the year scouring garage sales, book sales and discount stores for specific gifts for each person. They were always the most funny, outrageous but thoughtful gifts and everyone couldn’t wait to see what Aunt Loretta had bought us this year. Fossils, books, tools (crowbars) and other nicknacks.

Once retired from her job as a public health nurse, she volunteered in the art and theatre communities in Kamloops. She also was constantly taking classes to learn new things, such as computers and French. She even went to Quebec to take an immersion course in French. She was also active in her Catholic Church community in Kamloops.

She was a very independent, loving family member who will be missed.
