Lyle Mitchell Folkett passed away on February 4th, 2026 at the age of 80 years. Lyle was born on Christmas Day, 1945, in Killarney, Manitoba to William (Bill) Folkett and Wilda (Shaw) Folkett. Lyle resided in Burnaby for 34 years, then lived the past 18 years in Maple Ridge.
Lyle was employed by CP Rail as a telegraph operator throughout Southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan. He decided to change careers and attending Assiniboine College in Brandon, Manitoba where he studied to become a barber. It’s there that he met his future wife, Diane, and together they moved to The Pas, Manitoba. After apprenticing there to acquire his full barber license, he and Diane married and settled for a short time in The Pas, before making the decision to move to the Lower Mainland. He worked at Brentwood Mall in Burnaby. The barber shop changed names a few times, Brentwood Barbers, Heads Up Men’s Hair, then Brannigans. He started there in 1974 and worked there until his retired in 2008. He kept in contact with a lot of his customers and former co workers. He was proud to say that he was starting to give haircuts to the 3rd and 4th generations of his original customers.
Lyle was an avid reader. In earlier days, he enjoyed metal detecting and looking for “treasure” and stamp collecting. He enjoyed travelling to hot places with Diane, and even joined family to visit Disney World in Florida a few years ago. He loved watching golf, and hockey, especially the Canucks. He loved his peanuts and drinking his favourite, Pepsi.
Lyle is survived by is wife of 53 years, Diane, his daughter’s, Melissa (Derek), Kenzie (Josh), and 6 grandchildren who he was so proud to talk about, Sydni, Grace, Tristen, Kieren, Miya and Eliya.
He is also survived by his sisters, Anis Wray and Shawna Blair (Dan) and his brother Jack Folkett (Sharon), brother in law Milton Turnbull (Jeanine), and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
He is predeceased by his father Bill Folkett, mother Wilda Folkett, father in law Samuel Turnbull, mother in law Rose Turnbull, and brother in law Gary Wray.
At Lyle’s request, there will be no service.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that you make a charitable donation to The Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation, The Kidney Foundation of Canada or a charity of your choice in his name.
