Malcolm Vernon MacAlpine Obituary

April 15, 1946 - June 10, 2026

It is with great sadness that the family of Malcolm Vernon MacAlpine announce his passing on June 10th, 2026 in Maple Ridge, BC. Malcolm was born in Toronto, ON on April 15th, 1946.

Predeceased by his parents Eva and John.

Survived by his loving wife Betty, daughters Carly (Rodney), Shauna (Spencer) and Robyn (Jeff) and grandchildren Jake, Josh, Cate, Roan, and Mason, and many cousins in Ontario.

Malcom started the great adventure of life in Toronto, the only child to Eva and John (when you make perfection why go for more!).  He spent the early years raising hell on the family farm north of Lindsay, ON, shocking customers with the speed and stopping power of elevators in Eatons, and playing hockey.  After starting work at Imperial Oil in his early twenties, he met the woman who would become the love of his life, Betty, and they married in 1969.  Soon after marrying they were transferred west to Edmonton and then Calgary.  Calgary was home for many years where they set roots, started their family and made life-long friends and memories. While in Calgary, Mal wore many hats.  On top of a career with New West Homes he had his own business as a DJ, he was an umpire and played baseball and hockey.  He even convinced Betty to get her motorcycle license so they could cruise together when he wasn’t busy taking all the neighbourhood kids out.  In 1986 they ventured west again to Vancouver.  Mal went on to have a very successful career with Polygon and then Bosa Properties where he worked as VP of Customer Care until retirement.  But he wasn’t all business.  Mal enjoyed exploring the world with Betty, going to 4 continents and over 20 countries.  Sitting on a cruise ship balcony in the Caribbean with Betty was his happy place.  He also found a real passion in restoring his ’71 Challenger RT and going to car shows where, he more times than not, claimed first place.  This multi-talented man also built his dream home from the ground up with a garage that is the stuff legends are made of and the envy of every man that has ever entered it.  Playing hockey as a goalie remained a passion of his until health had him hang up his equipment at 78!   Mal has always been a smart man with a giant heart, a prankster and those that had the pleasure of knowing him would agree he has always had a funny sense of humour - was it a joke or was he serious?

An amazing and loyal husband, father and friend.  Those that he let in were blessed to have this wonderful and complex human in their lives.

And the DJ plays his signature last song: “Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na-Na Hey-Hey Goodbye”
