Obituary of Giovanna Teresa Bersaglio

Giovanna Teresa Bersaglio (nee Facchin)

August 20, 1939 – April 5, 2024

 

Giovanna (Joanna) was born in Belluno, Italy in 1939.  She immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in September of 1957 at the age of 18 after marrying Ezio Bersaglio.  

Joanna always wanted a family and soon had a family of three children, daughter Betty, and sons Sergio and Fabio which she cared for full time as a stay at home mother for over 14 years before taking on work at BC Tel Cafeteria and the Royal Bank.   Joanna worked at the Royal Bank Data Center where the first computer was located!   She went to night school to improve her English language and writing skills and worked there until 1990. 

Joanna and Ezio then retired in Maple Ridge where she volunteered regularly at the hospital auxiliary and hospice for Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation.   Joanna enjoyed her trips back to Italy visiting her sister Anna and family, and her brothers Antonio and Beppe, as well as other travel adventures with Ezio and friends.

Joanna moved to Abbotsford in 2019 where she was able to be closer to her brother Mario, family and friends, and son Fabio. 

Predeceased by her husband Ezio, Joanna is survived by daughter Betty (David), sons Sergio (Nancy) and Fabio, grandchildren Brock (Charis), Lauren (Daniel), Tia (Ostyn) and Mia (Jared), and great grandchildren Hadley, Jude and Leighton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 8^th at 11:00 am.   The church is located at 33333 Mayfair Avenue, Abbotsford, B.C.

The family wishes to thank all those who cared for Giovanna over the past six months during her illnesses at Abbotsford Hospital and Bevan Village.
