Obituary of Evelyn Margaret Raible

Please share a memory of Evelyn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Born September 27th, 1922, in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. Her Father’s name was John Wesley Robb, and her mother’s name was Margaret Elizabeth Robb, known as Grandma Peggy. She had one sister named Beulah Mary Catherine. Evelyn lived in Tisdale, Saskatchewan for her elementary school years and Victoria for her High School years. She graduated from Victoria High School in 1937. As a student, she took commercial courses to be a secretary. Her father taught her to value family and happiness. He seemed happy all the time, and brought her lovely gifts. He was a farmer and owned a butcher shop. Her mom was very kind and loving, though strict. She taught Evelyn to value money. Evelyn worked as a clerk at the bakery, and on the weekends she partied and rode horses. Her teenage years were fun and exciting. Some of her favorites are: Song: In the Mood. Movie: Wizard of Oz. Radio Program: Amos and Andy. Her favorite season was summer, and her favorite sport was tennis. She wore plaid skirts and long sweaters. Her parents were very strict about her friends and curfew time. She was expected to dust and keep her room tidy. She met the love of her life, Francis John Raible, originally from Radautz, Romania, born March 23rd 1924. He was a Leading Stoker for the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve. He lived in Regina, but was a sailor in Port in Victoria. He was a good dancer and fun to be with. Their first date was at the Hostess club where they went dancing. Most of their time was spent dancing or at the beach. Francis (Frank) thought Evelyn was beautiful, and a good dancer. The married on May 21st, 1945 in the Naval Chapel in Esquimalt. They later moved to Regina, and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and finally settled in Burnaby, B.C. They had four sons, Garry, Ron, Rick and Terry. Frank worked for C.P.R. Telegraphs and as an Insurance Salesman. Evelyn worked full-time for Safeway, as a clerk in the bakery dept., but she always seemed to be able to take excellent care of her family. Her favorite memories were usually family gatherings, especially Christmas, where they would open gifts on Christmas Eve, usually after midnight mass. Then there would be the Boxing Day open house! Frank went home to be with the Lord on October 23rd, 1987. Evelyn has celebrated the weddings of her four sons, the births of ten grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. She has enjoyed many activities including bowling, Hawaiian dancing, and line dancing. She has made many good friends through TOPS BC #1502 in Maple Ridge. Fraser Health home support workers and hospital Day Program supported her through the latter years. Everyone knew her as a real sweetie, never complaining. She entered Holyrood Manor on October 1st, 2012, where she has received excellent care. She received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Saviour at a Ladies Aglow retreat in Langley, B.C. The scripture that the Lord gave her at the retreat, was John 14:27 “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not be afraid.” Celebration of Life to be held August 31st at 1pm. At the High Way church 21746 Lougheed Highway, Maple Ridge. In lieu of flowers donations to be made to The David Foster Foundation.
