Dear Jacquie and family,
It is impossible to express how deeply we loved and appreciated Mel! There were countless, tireless hours we spent around the piano together recording and just having fun praising the Lord together. Then there were the wonderful times after the Sunday night meeting at conference, those amazing hymn sings and New Years Eves where he would play till we couldn’t sing anymore! We had an amazing connection and communication in music that is irreplaceable! He has left his mark on us and many others in a very positive way! Thank you and thank the Lord!
We rejoice for Mel that he has been released from his body of weakness and is at Home with his Lord! May the Lord comfort all of your hearts with this truth that is as sure as the promises of God and the resurrection of Christ!
Our Love and Prayers for all of you, Tom and Ruth Hoy

Dear Jacquie and family
Doris and I wish to express our sympathy at the loss you have experienced with Mel’s home call. I enjoyed getting to know Mel many years ago in Abbotsford and it has been good to be in touch with you both over the years. We have often listened to Mel’s piano and organ playing during the miles that we have traveled on the road, and our children often went to sleep listening to Mel’s melodies. The melody in his heart is now finding full expression in the Lord’s presence. We trust that you will be comforted by the knowledge that he is at home with the Lord and be conscious of the Lord’s sustaining care in the days ahead. Please know that you are on our hearts and in our prayers.
With Christian love Ken and Doris Taylor

I am so sorry for you Jacquie and family. I know we rest in that Mel is without pain and is in His presence but we still go through the feeling of being half a person and missing his smile and hugs and nothing replaces that for you at this time. What a privelege to have the memories of the love of a good husband, Dad, and Grandfather who loved you the best. From everyday from now you will really come to realize that love that only your precious Saviour can supply which you have so many times already lived through and proved His faithfulness. It is good to cry, I think that’s how we stay soft. I love you Jacquie, you were so kind and thoughtful to me when I worked at Hilltop and never missed an opportunity to speak to my Mom when you saw her. Thank you for that. we all know nobody could play like Mel. I loved to hear him play. I still have all his cassettes he made years ago and listen to them. What a honor to get to know him and you. I’m in 100 Mile so am so sorry I can’t make the memorial and so sorry I can’t give you a hug, but I know you will be experiencing the Lord’s arms around you .and the wonderful love of your family.. With much love DIxie

Dear Jacquie and family – we were so saddened to hear the news of Mel’s passing. We have many fond memories of being in your home for sings – Mel was such a gifted musician and we always loved hearing him play the piano. He also kindly helped me find the piano that we have in our own home. Neil and I are so disappointed that we are unable to attend the memorial service on Friday as we have a previous commitment out of town. We would have loved to have seen all your family together, even at this difficult time. Although it is hard to let our loved ones go, I am sure you are comforted in knowing that he is with his Saviour and at peace – no more suffering! We will be thinking of you all in the days ahead and praying that the Lord will give you His peace as you adjust to life without a loving husband/father/grandpa. Psalm 73:26 says: “My flesh and my heart may fail, But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever!” With love, Pauline and Neil and family

Dear Jacquie and family, -Dave and I are so disappointed that we will be unable to attend the memorial for Mel on Friday. We will be heading up to Edmonton on Wednesday, to attend Becky and Harry’s Alberta wedding reception.
We were so thankful to be able to visit Mel at SMH Easter Sunday, along with Murray,Barry and his wife. Even though it was difficult to see him in so much pain, it made us realize what a blessed release it was for Mel when the Lord took him home! “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints” Psalm115:15
We will miss seeing his happy face at Fleetwood and we will miss his piano playing and think of him every time we have a sing! Dave will miss their work together in the garage and will remember their road trips fondly.
We will be praying for you, Jacquie, and your whole family. May our Lord wrap His arms around you and give you all comfort and peace.
“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you; not as the world gives, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14: 1,27
With our love, Dave and Heather

He’ll always be “Uncle Mel” to me. When I heard of his passing I realized what an integral part of my life Mel and the Reid family were while we grew up together in Terrace, right through to when Mel did the music for our wedding. Much more than friends, we really were family. Glenn has fond memories of fishing trips way up north. We offer our love and condolences and will be there to say good-bye on Friday.

Dear Jacquie and family:
From his early days when he lived on Ontario Street, just a block away from where Evelyn and I had a basement suite, Mel was a friend.
When just a teenager, Melvyn was invited to join a Bible Class which was being held in Deep Cove for him and two other young men. The other two had little interest and Mel was the only one that remained to take hold of the things of God. He never lost his interest in the Word of God that those early days as a teenager.
Mel will be remembered for playing piano and especially because it made people feel compelled to sing.
Mel was always a friend and we enjoyed talking about any number of subjects, including the things of God and what God did in people’s lives.
Jacquie and the family cared for him so well till the end. You have given a good example of Christian love.
Mel was be missed. I still have recordings of him playing the piano here in Chile.
With love, — David and Margaret Jones

There is a big hole left in our assembly, but a Mel is whole again. Mel was always a warm smile, even on days that were challenging for him. He will be missed.

Our warmest condolences to Jackie and family in the loss of your dear husband, Dad, Grandpa and loving man to many who had the privilege to know him over the past number of years. Mel always had a smile for everyone, a lovely Christian gentleman and without question an accomplished musician – how we enjoyed hearing him play the piano. Today he is at Home with the Lord and while your hearts break for your great loss (and I so know that feeling of loss) it is sweet to know that he is free from the shackles of poor health. He is ‘forever with the Lord’. May God richly bless you all!
Warmest love in Christ,
David and Barb Kenny
