Obituary of John Gilchrist

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
December 16, 1934 – February 17, 2013. John passed away suddenly in the hospital after a year of waning health into the presence of his Lord. Born in Carluke, Scotland to William and Catherine Gilchrist, John is survived by his daughter Janice; his son Raymond (May); the mother of his children Isobel; his sister in Scotland, Nancy Stewart (Jim) and his nephew, Alastair (Margaret) and their family. Following his army service, he moved to England to work in HM Prison Service. He moved with his young family to Canada and settled down in Maple Ridge. He worked in the BC Corrections before he became the pastor of Ruskin Baptist Church. John continued in other Christian works in a number of different organizations. Over the years John was an actively involved volunteer with Hope International, REVV, Baptist Housing and many other organizations. He had a passion for soccer as a player, coach, referee and fan. He also enjoyed playing racquetball and golf. He was a true devotee of the Canucks, the Lions and the Whitecaps. He loved to sing and even tried his hand at acting. Private family service will be held, followed by a celebration of life on March 16, 2013 at 2:00pm at Grandview Towers (function room tower 2) 1425 E 3rd Avenue, Vancouver, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (BC) or the Baptist Housing Society. Dad, your smile and jovial nature will be deeply missed.
