Roy really took to archery on a visit to England in the early 1990s. He went on to become a very competent longbowman in the shooting and making of his own archery tackle. When in England he joined my traditional archery club and had some memorable and exciting times shooting with our members in our lovely ancient woodland. All his friends here in Thornbury Field & Roving Archers want to send their thoughts via this most modern form of communication, whereas in the past the messages would have been tied to arrows and shot skyward. We are still with you Roy.

Dad, you taught me so much in life, in my childhood, and as an adult. I cherished our trip together to England in 1990, we helped one another in rough times, you were so proud on my wedding day when you “gave me away”, and I was so proud that you were my Dad; all those times in Burnaby when you used to take me to Central Park, so I could dance around in the big piles of maple leaves while you took my picture. For all those times when you asked me: “How’re you doing, all right?” I’m fine, Dad, I’m doing just fine:) Though I miss you so much– you were my best friend… my loving father; my hero.

Uncle Roy always played his 12 string so beautifully. I always admired his musical abilities and he was my inspiration to learn how to play the guitar myself. I remember Uncle Roy and Auntie Lena always had chocolates for us as kids, when they came over. I remember Uncle Roy always trying to pull money out of our ears and create the illusions of magic. He was an awesome Uncle, I’m so thankful for the memories. xoxox

Uncle Roy was such a soft-spoken, gentle guy. I always loved listening to him sing and play his guitar. So sorry I didn’t get to see him again. Love to all of you, xxx

I only met Roy a few times while working in the healthcare field, but my family and I are the ones who purchased his home on 212th. I know from speaking to him how much he loved this place, and he even told me about how the cedars in the back yard are a special hybrid which makes the best and strongest of bows. Not too long ago I found one of his old business cards and smiled to myself. Please know that his love for life lives on here and we are blessed to fill this home with laughter and love as well. All the best to Carole and family as you remember and rejoice a wonderful man.

Uncle Roy can best be remembered for his guitar playing of
“Blue Spanish Eyes”,his love of archery, and finding out he was allergic to yew-while making those bows and arrows! I don’t know of anyone else who will continue this rare art.
He will be not be forgotten; I truly wish I had visited him more-but we are relieved he is not suffering.
Uncle Roy survived many illnesses, but could not overcome the most uncertain one…age.
You will be missed Uncle Roy~but I’m sure Auntie Lena will be pleased to see you.
*PS I’m sorry I broke the tail-light of your car when I was six…but it did have big tail-fins, and I didn’t know how to ride Janette’s bike.

I cannot say that I knew Roy very well as a person, but I got to know him as a being in the late stages of his journey in body on this planet. My experience of Roy was joyous and exciting. It can be said that he lived life to the fullest right to the end – and a bit beyond. Such was his love for life.
What awaits him always was what awaits us all when we love – when we express the love that we are. Roy showed all of us the true heart of being human.
May God bless

Roy was a peacemaker. He made peace with having to come to Canada. He made peace with his spouses. He was at peace with Dr’s and Nurses and all things medical, like losing body parts. Finally, making peace with his daughters. Thanks Roy
