Hugh John McMurchie Obituary

October 2, 1935 – September 10, 2012

Dad passed away peacefully in the hospital with his three kids and their spouses at his side after fighting a brave battle. Hughie was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1935 and moved to Vancouver with his family when he was young. After graduating from Van Tech, he joined his Father Hugh and started his long career with Pacific Press. Hughie worked as a Pressman for 45 years before retiring as a Foreman in 1998. Both his sons followed in his footsteps and became Pressmen, later to be followed by his son-in-law and then grandson, making four generations of Pressmen. Hughie was predeceased by his father Hugh, mother Martha Elizabeth (aka Bessie), and sister Jean. He is survived by his wife Barb, son John (Donna-Lee), daughter Cori (Bert), son Rod (Betty), and six grandchildren, Jason, Sarah, Stacey, Samantha, Stephanie and Shelby, and many friends. Hughie was an avid fan of the Lions and Canucks and rarely missed a game. Golf was another one of his passions; he could frequently be found on the course or enjoying a round on TV. He kept his great sense of humour right up until the end and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, September 22nd at 1:00 pm at the Garden Hill Funeral Home at 11765 – 224th Street in Maple Ridge. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association in honour of Hugh

The family would like to give a special thank you to the Nurses and Staff of Ridge Meadows Hospital for the special care they gave to Hugh and the family during his brief stay.
