Although we were cousins (my dad Richard Ben and Chris’s dad Tom were brothers) I never really got to know Chris, but it’s great to read about him and the love and esteem he clearly inspired. I didn’t know I had so many relatives in Canada, and although most of us will probably never meet it’s good to know that you are there, a reminder that all of us are connected in ways we are not always aware of. My sympathy and very best wishes to all of you.

To Joan and all family and friends of Chris Saunders
We are truly sad and sorry that such a vibrant member of the Saunders family has been lost. Although unfamiliar with him, it is apparent from family history and from other tributes, what an amazing man Chris was. He must have made a huge impact on all he met during his lifetime.
May his memory live on; we are sorry not to have met him. Other members of the Saunders family will remind us of his presence here on earth.
Love from John Todd (cousin, twin son of Lena and Ron), and wife Hilary. Essex, England

The Board of the Volunteer Cancer Drivers Society was saddened to learn of Chris’s death. He was a sincere and compassionate cancer driver for many during his volunteer time with the Canadian Cancer Society and latterly with the VCDS. We are grateful and thankful for his service. Our condolences to all the Saunders family.

Our love is with you Joan, Ian, Janet and all the family there. Chris never seemed to age to me! He loved our dogs, loved visiting family in UK, was very pleased to enjoy a live performance of ‘The Importance of Being Ernest’ in Southend UK with us (in memory of our father Tom who had the same sense of humour and caring for the underdog). And he genuinely always cared about my Mum Eileen. It was so special to see and hear Chris via video-link on Mum’s 100th B.D. just before Christmas, and we will always remember these special occasions. He was looking forwards to seeing us in June and it is so sad that it was not to be, but we will see the family there and I know he would have wanted that. Goodbye brother xxx

Condolences to Joan and to all Chris’s family there.
We didn’t get to see Chris often, but it was always really special when we did. He showed up for my brother Tom’s 60th birthday and made that a truly special celebration.
He was so helpful when I needed a hip replacement, and put me on to a brilliant surgeon. He was such a strong,, fun and courageous person, and we all loved him. He will be dearly missed. The blessing is that he is no linger suffering, and he has left a lovely family and wonderful memories of a warm, kind and clever man, who was a very special brother.
Love to you all.
Eileen Drain (Jaki Russell’s twin sister), and Derek, my hubby xxxxx

Brother
When our father’s clock was ticking he said “ I cannot contemplate my own non-existence”
Neither could I.
Long after his ashes were transformed to roses, he walked back into my life
I watched him conduct your conversation with the same hands
I heard him railing at social injustice and hypocrisy in your voice
I saw his reverence for the living world through your eyes
Now your body is changing to trees and mountains, I cannot contemplate your non-existence
Without pain.
But I have seen you in your daughter and your granddaughter
I have heard you in their conversations
I have glimpsed your expression in their faces
So I know you are still there
