We moved to Maple Ridge in 1988. I was fortunate to achieve my dream of working in schools when I was hired as a casual clerical in 1989. I was posted to Harry Hooge Elementary school to fill in for a couple of weeks for the regular secretary. I met Mr. Reg Nelligan and was immediately impressed with his caring attitude toward students, staff and parents. The day of the Christmas concert arrived and I was wishing that I could attend. However, I knew I would be answering the phone. Reg told me to put the answering machine on, and to come along and watch the concert in the gym. I enjoyed it very much. Because of Mr. Nelligan there was such a positive energy throughout the school. I never forgot his kindness. Truly an example of what an administrator should be.
I am sorry for your loss.

Dear Sammy, Shelley, Tamara and family:
I am saddened by the loss of this truly remarkable man of integrity and faith. The man you call husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather etc.
Reg wore so many hats well. I knew him as one of the greatest educators. Reg was a leader in district 42. However, his lessons knew no boundaries.
I am keeping you all in my heartfelt prayers. Thank you for being so generous to share Reg with me and so many countless others.
We have all been blessed to have spent time with him. Reg taught me to have faith in a better tomorrow….
And hope that the future generations would lead the way. I believed him then and I believe him even more today!
There will never be another Reg. I will cherish him in my heart forever. Thank you for sharing this great man with me and my family.
My heartfelt prayers are with you on this journey! Journey on!
Gratefully,
Sue O’Reilly

Reg was a beautiful person, and he will be dearly missed. He had such a generous spirit and was always willing to say “Yes” when asked to perform some small act to help someone else. He thought of others before thinking of himself. May he rest in peace.
