Asta Sarglepp née Kruusma – passed away peacefully at age 87 at the Maple Ridge Seniors Village on 15 April 2017. Asta was born 27 September 1929, at Leppneeme, Viimsi, Estonia and at the age of 15 escaped the Russian army with her parents and siblings in a small fishing boat to Sweden where she met her future husband Avo. The couple immigrated in 1950 first to London, Ontario, and shortly afterwards drove across Canada to settle in Pitt Meadows. Asta was predeceased by her son Peter in 1959 and her husband Avo in 2001. The couple made their home in Pitt Meadows and for many years presided over Maple Wood Construction Limited first building homes and then later apartment complexes. She loved gardening, dancing, fishing, singing and was a voracious reader and helped her husband with the business. Upon retirement Asta and Avo spent part of each year in their duplex in Mesa, Arizona. They purchased a retirement home in Summerland and grew peaches. Asta leaves to mourn daughters Tina (Don) Waite, Daisy (Bob) Anderson, and sons Roy (Pam) Sarglepp and Andy (Diane) Sarglepp; grandchildren Crystal (Jason) Ilnicki, Michael (Buffy) Carlson; Sheila (Tyler) Guy and Bryan Anderson; Jennifer Sarglepp; Faith and Alexander Sarglepp; great grandchildren Amelia and Julianna Ilnicki; Jazmine and her son Riley, Jordan, Victoria and Seth Carlson; and great grandson Oliver Guy. A celebration of her life is to be held at the Garden Hill Funeral Home, 11765 224th St., Maple Ridge at 1:00 pm on Friday, April 28. Refreshments to follow. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to a charity of choice.
