George Simson, 73, passed away on April 11, 2017 at the Baillie House in Maple Ridge, BC. George was born on July 19, 1944 in Angus, Scotland. He served with the Black Watch in Gibraltar, Germany, Cyprus, Ireland, Hong Kong, Libya, Malta, Australia and New Zealand before immigrating to Canada in 1974 accompanied by his wife, Grace, and daughter. In Canada he continued his military service first as a reservist and then as an officer in the Cadet Instructor Cadre. George is predeceased by his wife, Grace Simson, and leaves behind his daughter Caroline (Clint Hopper) and his grandchildren Jennifer McGregor, Colin McGregor, and Dylan Hopper. George’s family invites you to a Celebration of Life and to say farewell to a father, grandfather, leader, mentor and friend on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at 1:00PM, located at Garden Hill Cremation and Funeral Services, 11765 224th St, Maple Ridge. A reception will be held afterwards at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 88, 12101 224th St, Maple Ridge, BC. If military personnel wish they may wear their uniform. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in George’s name to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada, or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
