Obituary of Edwin Le Roy Olson

August 17, 1927-March 10, 2017 It is with tears in our eyes but smiles in our hearts that we announce that Eddie peacefully passed away at Baillie House, Maple Ridge, BC surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his wife Marian and his only sibling Evelyn (Sis). Eddie was born in Hammond, BC and was a proud Hammond boy! He was a 3rd generation millworker at Hammond Cedar Mill. He leaves behind the legacy of 6 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Dad was so proud of his family! He was a charter member of the Maple Ridge Aerie 2831 Fraternal Order of the Eagles. Dad loved the Eagles dinners and supported the group anyway he could. Who could forget all the years he played Santa Claus for the kids at the Christmas parties. Dad loved being outdoors hunting or fishing in the Cariboo-Chilcotin. The last number of years you could find him May through September living in his camper at Raven Lake. His campsite was the social hub and people would drop by all day long to chat and hang out. Many of the other campers would invite dad over for a dinner and dad was known for bringing a pie along to share. As the logging trucks rumbled past they would honk their horn and say hi to Eddie. You would find Dad sitting in his lawn chair, ball cap perched on his head, cup of coffee in his hand, looking out at the lake and he would say “you just can’t beat this.” Eddie, Mr O, Papa, Dad, or the Mayor of Raven Lake… no matter how you knew him, he always left you with a smile on your face. The family would like to express special thanks to the Webster’s Corner staff at Baillie House for the wonderful care and for making Dad feel so at home. You were always there to scratch his back!! We would also like to thank Garden Hill Funeral Chapel. Rest in peace Dad and we hope you are enjoying Mom’s cooking again!! In lieu of flowers, donations in Eddie’s memory can be made to Baillie House – Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation.
