Obituary of Joan Beyer
November 22, 1924 – March 26, 2020 It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Gramma, and GG – Joan Beyer. Born November 22, 1924, in Clayburn, BC., she died Thursday March 26, in Maple Ridge at Ridge Meadows Hospital. Tragically only one family member could be with her on her final day due to Covid-19 lock-down protocols at the hospital. This virus is a thief of loving embraces. Matriarch of the Beyer clan she was dearly loved by her 5 children. Predeceased by her eldest son David Pedersen, she has been a foundation of advice and comfort to Greg Beyer (Karen), Kevin Beyer (Heike), Rebecca Wenta, and Corinne Love. She is survived, missed and loved by her 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Ever watchful on the family, she always remembered to send cards for birthdays and anniversaries. A card or letter from Mom, Gramma, or “Aunt Joan” was a treasured gift. Just as constant as her efforts to connect with the family was her faith in The Lord. We appreciate that Corinne was able to sing some favourite songs and read bible passages to our Dear Mother on her final day. Joan was a strong-willed woman and true to her feistiness she insisted the staff sit her in a wheelchair (using a lift, protective gear and all) on her 2nd to last day. Her plan was simple: “Just wheel me outta here!” She loved to celebrate those little things that could draw the family together: St Patrick’s Day with green beer and Robbie Burns day for Scotch and Haggis! She was totally independent until these last two months – still driving, still smoking, living on her own, and still beating all comers at scrabble. We were blessed to have had a wonderful Celebration on her 95th birthday (25 attending) and one last Robbie Burns celebration at her house this year (a glorious family chaos of 19). This has been a trying last couple months with her in and out of hospital due to falls. We appreciate and thank the many hospital doctors, hospital and community nurses, and care aides (too many to list) for all their dedicated work and help, particularly in these Covid-19 times. A celebration of her life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family would ask you to consider a donation to your local food bank or the SPCA in her memory. To plant a tree in memory of Joan Beyer, please visit Tribute Store
