Please share a memory of Norma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Norma was born in Shackleton, Saskatchewan on the 25 Aug, 1933. She attended school and went on to nurses’ school in Moose Jaw, SK, receiving her RN in 1955. In summer of 1954, she met her future husband, training as a pilot in RCAF; married in June, 1955 in Hamilton, Ontario. Her husband Jim was posted to RCAF STN Moose Jaw as a flying instructor until 1959, left military life with two children (boys) and started a new life as an Esso agent dealer in Port Coquitlam, before two more children, a boy and a girl. She returned to nursing in 1973 at Hawthorne Lodge in Port Coquitlam; retired in 1993 as Director of Nursing. A devoted mother, wife, nurse, grandmother. Normie loved people; family and grandchildren especially. She loved her Dutch heritage and maintained close contact with family members in Saskatchewan. In retirement, she loved plants, flowers, birds, squirrels, gardening and enjoyed cooking, baking and good jokes. Normie loved sports; curling, hockey, baseball, and football. In declining health, she bravely faced the future. Now, much too soon, she is gone to a better place. No Service by request. Special thanks to Baillie House – Haney Lane Staff for caring for Normie before her final landing on February 13, 2017. When I’ve come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me I want no rights in a gloom filled room Why cry for a soul set free? Miss me a little but not too long And not with your head bowed low Remember the love once shared Miss me but let me go. For this is the journey we all must take And each must go alone It’s all part of the master’s plan A step on the road to home. When you are lonely and sick at heart Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds Miss me but let me go.
