Obituary for Joy Elcheshen (nee ‎Affleck) On Tuesday, May 26, 2020, Rose Joy Elcheshen passed away at the age of 71, in Maple Ridge, B.C. Born in Vancouver, on June 3, 1948, Joy was the oldest child of Boyd and Ruth Affleck. She grew up in Winnipeg and later returned to Vancouver to attend Northwest Baptist Theological College. Joy lived in Maple Ridge since 1984 and was an active member in the community. She worked as a realtor and served on the Ridge Meadows Hospital Board for 10 years, including 4 years as Chair. Her church community was a key part of Joy’s life. She served in many capacities at Maple Ridge Baptist Church, but was a leader and mentor for many years in women’s ministries. Her passion and advocacy work led to her co-founding a non-profit organization providing shelter and support for women and children. Joy was known for her warm, generous hospitality, feeding the many people she welcomed into her home. She loved babies and could cuddle any crying baby to sleep. Her hugs were legendary. She loved baking and gardening and had a wedding planning business where she made cakes and designed flowers. Joy is survived by Bob, her husband of nearly 51 years, her children Cynthia, Jen (Rob), and Stephen (Kerri), her grandchildren Tanner, Brodie, Aeron, and Cayleigh, her five sisters, one brother, many nieces, nephews, and a large extended family. She was predeceased by her brother John, and nieces Candace and Crystal. In lieu of flowers, please consider a gift to W.I.N.G.S., an organization for which Joy cared deeply. Monarchplace.org A gathering will take place at a later date when family and friends can get together to remember and celebrate Joy’s life.
