With profound sadness we announce the passing of Valerie Laurette our loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all whose lives she touched. Valerie age 83 of Maple Ridge, passed away at home peacefully with her children by her side after fighting Cancer on Sunday 12, 2020 . She was born to the late Erna and Thomas on December 1936 in Belgravia, Johannesburg South Africa. It seemed from an early age she loved animals, especially dogs and would enjoy filling their bowls with food. Shoes were also her favourite and she made sure they were neatly arranged together. Life was exciting for her she loved visitors and often invited people into her home to see her baby sister and would chat for hours. She always enjoyed chatting throughout her life. In the war years her father was commissioned in Standerton and later they moved to Muizenburg in the Cape, they stayed in army apartments surrounded with bird aviaries and fish ponds. She made a special friend her name was Cynthia, creating happy memories. Her dad build her a lovely wooden playhouse, her mom made her curtains for the house, she took great pride in it and made tea with her pink tea set. She had so much fun playing with siblings and neighbours. She returned to Johannesburg and attended Fairview Junior school where she had fun especially when she played games like “join on the Cats tail” which was a favourite of all the pupils. She had a dog named Rover, he one day followed her to school, she thought that she had escaped him, however Rover trotted to her desk and the teacher said “VALERIE” no doubt this dogs belongs to you , please take him home” She enjoyed school and was good at high jump she was always an A student. Later they moved to Randfontein and lived in a lovely, cosy sunny house in Ivan Road. She attended Randfontein Business College and obtained her National Certificate . At 17yrs she was employed as a typist for Liverpool, London and Globe Insurance Company. She furthered her experience and became a secretary at Jan Viljoen Technical school in Randfontein. She went on a adventurous exciting holiday to a Cowboy Ranch in the Drankensburg were she met the love of her life Basil they got married in June of 1958, and moved to Escourt in Natal. In March 1960 she gave birth to a beautiful daughter Bernice. Later they moved back to Randfontein, where they continued to live happily while raising another two children Dawn born in August 1971 a delightful daughter and Alan born in August 1974 a handsome son. She was always the person we looked up to, so kindhearted, full of love, honest, fair-minded, spontaneous, full of fun, intellectual, loved to travel. Was the best conversationalist, and had a lot of amazing friends. We can reflect with such admiration and respect as to what a caring, remarkable, exceptional, wonderful mother grandmother and great grandmother she was. Mom gave so much love to each of us. We think of all that she did for our family and all the love she had generously poured from her heart. We feel humble, our hearts will always be filled with joy of knowing her love was the most precious gift we have ever received. The love she gave will forever live within us. Her life was a blessing, her memories are treasured, she will always be in our hearts forever. And each time we think of her , we smile knowing , she is our guardian angel and heavens shining light. Lovingly remembered by her children: — Bernice, Dawn, Alan, Grandchildren:- Natasha, Riley, Korbin, Relinda and Great grandchildren:- Diago, Cruz, Luca.
