Obituary of Thoni John Aalgaard

Thoni John Aalgaard (July 16, 1932—August 6, 2020) Thoni John Aalgaard passed away peacefully at the Bevan Lodge long-term care home in Abbotsford, B.C. on the morning of August 6, 2020. He was 88 years old. Born in Claresholm, Alberta on July 16, 1932, the first son to proud immigrants from Norway, Thoni became a stylist and later a financial manager for some of the world’s premiere salons, including Salon Vivace. He traveled to California in his youth, honing his skills and serving clients in Beverly Hills before returning to Canada, where he worked well into his eighties. Thoni truly found joy and fulfilment in his profession, and his expertise was relied upon for many years by some of the best in the business. Thoni was an extraordinarily hard worker, but also a discerning connoisseur of many of this world’s finest pleasures. He enjoyed a good symphony, and a good cocktail. He was a talented horticulturalist, known for his skill in the rose garden. He was a gifted chef, who took both pride and pleasure in sharing from his pantry. And he was an ambitious traveler, whose journeys led him from Chicago to Virginia to the former Yugoslavia. His kind and gentle nature touched the hearts of many during his long life, and he will be missed by all who knew him. Thoni is predeceased by his parents, Toralf and Elisabeth. He leaves to mourn his younger brothers, Elmer and Al (Angie), his nephews Todd and Scott (Masako), and his great-niece Sara-Lynne. No service by request. Thoni’s family thanks the doctors, nurses, and staff of Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Bevan Lodge for their compassionate care in Thoni’s final days, and hopes that you might find time to pause and enjoy the fragrance of a rose in his memory.
