I first met Lelia in 2014 when I had broken my ankle and desperately needed some help. It didn’t take too long before my Husky named Dawson was eagerly waiting by the door on dog walking days. He was a handful ! Locking her out of her van up in Golden Ears, taking off on her, eating her freshly bought baguette and more. But they adored each other ! I think Lelia recognized herself in his impishness. Lelia and I also became fast friends and she was one of the most thoughtful and generous people I know. Just the same. She made it clear that I was to get no more Huskies ! Two more followed….Sorry, Lelia….they are just so darn cute ! In spite of all her protests, this is Lelia welcoming the latest one ! It is one of my favourite pictures of her because it embodies the love she had, not just for dogs, but for people she cared about. Through her love and compassion for others, particularly the underdog, ( no pun intended), she created a loving community for herself, something she very much needed. She taught me many lessons about resiliency and acceptance and I will miss my friend dearly. My condolences to Steven and Cathy and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
