Obituary of David Reece Harrington
In Loving Memory of David Reece Harrington (1989-2023)
On Friday, July 21st, 2023, David Harrington, peacefully passed away at the age of 33, leaving behind cherished memories and an everlasting imprint on our hearts. He is survived by his parents, Shirley and Michael Harrington, and sister, Elise Harrington, his grandmother, Lavore Waddle, and a large extended family. David was a special soul, one who brought joy and warmth to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
David was born in 1989 and faced unique challenges throughout his life, but he taught us invaluable lessons about love, resilience, and forgiveness. Despite his limitations, he lived with joy, with a bright smile and laugh.
David resided in an Arcus group care home in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, where he received exceptional care and support from the dedicated Arcus staff who became like family to us all. His parents were pillars of strength and devotion, providing him with unwavering love and attention. They frequently visited him, taking him for walks, playing the guitar for him, and ensuring that he always felt surrounded by love.
Music held a special place in David's heart. He received music therapy sessions throughout his life, taking great joy in the sounds of flutes and violins. His love of Julie Andrews’ “The Sound of Music” is rivalled by none.
We take comfort in knowing that David is now at peace, embraced by the love of those who passed before him. We are grateful for the time we had with him and the lessons he taught us about compassion and acceptance.
A memorial service to celebrate David's life will be held at St. Patrick’s Parish (22561 121 Ave. Maple Ridge, BC) on Tuesday, August 1st at 1:00 pm, where family and care givers will gather to remember the joyous moments we shared with him. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the Capilano University Foundation, directed to their Music Therapy Program by clicking Designation and choose Music Therapy Association of BC.
