Please share a memory of Otto to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

June 6, 1947 – August 4, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband and father on August 4, 2023, in Maple Ridge, BC. Otto was born in Zalaegerszeg,  Hungary on June 6, 1947.

Otto is predeceased by his parents, Karoly and Olga.

Left to mourn his loss is his wife Roza, his son Bence, his daughter in law Cynthia, his extended family in Hungary and his friends.

At the age of 19, Otto was enlisted in the Hungarian army where he served as a border guard. While he was posted to East Hungary, he met the love of his life, Roza on the train. Otto and Roza were married in October 1968 and lived in Budapest until 1985.  A few years later, their only son Bence was born. With the future of their son in mind, Otto and Roza made the decision to leave Hungary and seeked refuge in Austria. From there, they made the decision to immigrate to Canada in 1986. In Canada, Otto worked in Auto Marine (UAP Napa) for 27 years.

Otto loved driving fast cars. One of the first cars he bought upon arrival in Canada was a Chevy Camaro Berlinetta. He loved cooking his famous beef goulash in a kettle over open fire, the traditional way. Otto also enjoyed the outdoors.

A celebration of life is scheduled for October 28, 2023 at 11:00am to be followed by a reception at Garden Hill Funeral Services (11765 224th St, Maple Ridge).

Expressions of sympathy can be made at www.gardenhill.ca. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Otto’s memory would be appreciated
