Charlie Perry was truly one of a kind......hardest working manager I ever worked for .... always on the floor talking to customers. He was the Gold Standard of Customer Service and lead by example for all of his team. He truly cared about his team... and his customers. Many times I saw him throw in a buck or two for a customer that was short a bit of cash and when I asked him if he ever got it back, he said 99% of the time he did.
He had a heart of gold and supported his people 100%

My Mom Ruth was Shirley’s good friend from elementary and high school. They taught and boarded together as young teachers in Armstrong. Along with Audrey Gunby. The men who married the girls all outlived their wives. My Dad is the last survivor of the Armstrong 6. He’s 96 1/2 now. When I tell him tomorrow that Charlie has passed away he’ll say: He’s lucky!
PS I can send some photos tomorrow.

Charlie hired me as a 16 year old kid in high school. I did not know that hire would lead to such a long career with the Overwaitea Food Group. Charlie was a hands on leader - he always seemed to be on the floor interacting with customers. The senior ladies loved it when he greeted them as “young lady”. He was also very hard to keep up with as he zipped around the store. I learned so much from Charlie about customer service and leading people - I would frequently use my experience working with Charlie as an example of how to look after the customer and lead. Charlie was also was very community focused and also entrenched that that giving spirit in so many team members. To me Charlie epitomized the “Overwaitea Way”. I am not able to attend the celebration of life so I would like to share my condolences with the family. Art Van Pelt

Charlie was a awesome, person. Charlie hired me in 1972 when I was in grade 10. He was a great and fair boss and leader. Always smiling, laughing. He was a true person who put the customer always first. He was someone you wanted to emulate. I worked for Carlie until 1980 in the Maple ridge store. He was the catalyst of me working my way up the Overwaitea ladder to Store manager. I will miss your great smile Charlie.. I've so many stories I could share, and have of my time working with and for you. God's strength and peace to all the family. Blessings. Jim Parussini.

Going over Christmas day for drinks, always getting to open the new bottle of gingerale you would buy just for me,because of that one time it was expired and tasted terrible but I didn't want to say anything so mom did. Always calling us silly names instead of our real names, spending my summers laying by the pool in your backyard. There are so many great memories I could fill a book! Thank you for always being extra grandparents to us ❤️

Unforgettable Charlie. He left a life time of impressions on all that met him. He was kind and caring and always ready to lend a hand and an ear. He offered his home to me and my 3 kids as we needed to move immediately. We didn’t move in but I knew he was sincere and we could have. That was Charlie!!!
Very fond memories will stay with us forever. ♥️
