Obituary of Peggy Lambert
Please share a memory of Peggy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
LAMBERT, Margaret “Peggy” (nee McKay), age 89, of Maple Ridge British Columbia.
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our Mom & Grandmother Peggy on Thursday June 27, 2024 after a courageous battle following a stroke.
Born in 1935 in Coventry Warwickshire, UK, to parents Kenneth and Florence McKay, Peggy survived the terror of WWII as Coventry was devastated by German bombing raids during her time there. In 1947 Peggy along with her parents immigrated to Canada and initially spent time living on the West Coast of BC in the fishing community of Namu, then on to Vancouver where she attended Templeton High School. Following Graduation, Peggy returned to Coventry to complete Nursing training and became an RN and a State Certified Midwife dedicating her life to the care of others which during her career included the delivery of hundreds of babies on her own.
Peggy returned to BC and in 1960 married her love, Ivor “Dave” Lambert whom she first met in Jersey, the Channel Islands. The two settled in Burnaby, BC and began raising a family. During these years Peggy continued to work as an RN and a Midwife at Burnaby, Lions Gate and Royal Columbia Hospitals and as per her many experiences, she really did ‘see-it-all’.
Following their retirement to Maple Ridge, Peggy refused to sit idle and began an in-house Care Clinic for Seniors at a local facility. The goal was to reduce the load placed on Doctors by providing weekly in-house health check-ups and providing seminars on issues vital to seniors. Her efforts were applauded by many in the BC Health Care Community and Peggy was recognized on the floor of the BC Legislature for her work.
As many will attest, Peggy was a fantastic cook. It was her passion outside of work and while everything she created was of restaurant quality her Rack of Lamb, Yorkshire Puddings, Sausage Rolls and Lemon Cake will live on in the kitchens of her family as we hold those recipes (and many others) close at heart.
Preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Florence, Peggy is survived by her husband of 64 years Dave, daughter Suzanne (Iain), son Christopher (Jennifer) grandchildren Christine, Alexander (Paige), Rachel and Colin and great-grandson Jaxon.
A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date.
