Obituary of Bessie May Cossey

Please share a memory of Bessie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

30 August 1932 - 18 August 2024

It is with great sadness to announce the death of my beloved Mother, Bessie May Cossey (Bess) to all who knew here.

Bess passed away peacefully in her care home at the age of 92.

Born in Northern Ontario, Bess and her only sister Olive Shepherd were split up as children but always kept in touch with each other. She had great pride in her sister and told many stories of her.  Bess met and married my father Keith in Keewatin, Ontario and lived initially in Kenora on The Lake of the Woods.  Mom and Dad moved to B.C. in 1966 and ultimately settled in Maple Ridge.  She had three sons; Wayne, Bruce and Grant.

She worked for a number of years at the Maple Ridge post office. Outside of family and work Mom had a strong passion for nature and animals and was always happiest being outdoors.

A legacy of kindness, courage and strength is what will be remember with the final passing of my Mother.  Her long battle with Alzheimer Disease stole her mind but she will aways be remembered for her, love, support and laughter.

A special thank you to the Staff of Holyrood Manor where she lived for the last 10 years.

She leaves behind her third Son; Grant

Grand Children; William, Jasper, Lucas and Cheryl

Great Grandchildren; Americus, Jason and Hunter

Rest in Peace Mom

There will be a small very casual celebration of her life at Holyrood Manor care home in Maple Ridge at 3pm on the 4th of September.

In Lieu of flowers any donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada would be gratefully accepted   https://alzheimer.ca
