MEDFORD – Monica Kathleen (nee Maxwell)

On Thursday, September 12, 2024, Monica Kathleen Medford (nee Maxwell) passed away peacefully at Foyer Maillard care Home, in Coquitlam at the age of 86, after a long battle with Diabetes and Dementia.

Monica is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Keith, son Michael (Anita) of Maple Ridge, and daughter, Michele (John) of Surrey. Grandchildren, Brayden and Keenan Medford of Maple Ridge and brother Henderson Maxwell (Barbados). She will be missed by her nieces: Joan Maxwell-Shepherd (Barbados), Cheryl Gordon, Gail Maxwell-Ramsey (USA), Ingrid Maxwell (Trinidad) & Sherry maxwell (UK) and nephews: Stanton Maxwell (Barbados), Lawrence Davis (USA) and Mitchell Prescott. She touched the hearts of her cousins, great nephews and nieces, godchildren, friends and extended family who will miss her dearly.

Monica was predeceased by her parents, Reginald and Leotta Maxwell; her sister Pauline Maxwell; her brothers Evan and Malcolm Maxwell and niece, Marcelle Maxwell-Neil.

Monica was born in 1938 in Barbados. She moved to England in March 1962 to study nursing. She married her love Keith in 1966. With much joy she had son Michael in 1967 and daughter Michele in 1970. The family gathered up and moved to Canada in August 1974 and made Maple Ridge their home in 1975.

Monica retired in 2000. Monica was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother and during her long life had many dear friends. Fond memories include her delicious cooking and baking, exemplified by her enjoyment of throwing a good party and baking her Christmas cake. Monica was adventurous and would never give up a chance to travel.

A Celebration of her life will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 23500 Dewdney Trunk Road, in Maple Ridge on Thursday, October 3rd from 2 – 4 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society and Diabetes Canada,

The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff at Foyer Maillard Long Term Care, Coquitlam, for their exceptional love, care and support of Monica during the final years of her journey.
