Obituary of William Douglas Joseph McKinnon

William “Bill” McKinnon, 78, of Pitt Meadows, passed away on September 22, 2024, at McKenney Creek Hospice, Maple Ridge. Bill was born on June 19, 1946, in Vancouver, to Elizabeth and Douglas McKinnon.

 

Bill was a man of faith who had many careers throughout his lifetime, including seminarian, drug and alcohol counselor, elementary school teacher and retail sales. He was known for his love of ballroom dance and dedicated much of his life to teaching dancing, holding community dance events and travelling the world, cruise ship by cruise ship, with his dear friend and companion, Susan Rousson, who pre-deceased Bill in 2013.

 

Bill is survived by his beloved children and grandchildren, Tamara and Symon More, Nathan and Melissa McKinnon (Colton, Maxwell and Mataya), Valerie McKinnon (Jack and Betty) and Jared McKinnon and his partner, Brittany Halarewich. Bill was a close family friend to the Roussons, and is also survived by Susan’s three sons, Paul and Stacey Rousson (Aaron and Lily), Alan Rousson and wife, Lisa Hedderson, and Mike Rousson.

 

Bill will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

 

A vigil will be held for Bill at 7 pm on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at St. Luke’s Parish, Maple Ridge. Bill’s memorial service will be at 11 am on Friday, October 4, 2024, at St. Luke’s Parish, Maple Ridge, with reception to follow.

 

McKenney Creek Hospice staff took such loving care of our dad during his final months. Their compassion, empathy, support and kindness will forever be remembered. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ridge Meadows Hospice Society in Bill’s name.
