We are so sad to hear of Ribsy’s passing. Don has commented many times over the past months that Ribsy was his first friend when he moved to Hammond in 1948. They played ball together in Hammond and then went on to play for Maillardville Athletics. When Ribsy hit the home run to beat Haney in 1951 Don said he would smoke a cigar if they won and Ted Bowyer said he would buy the cigar!! So Don did and because he is a non smoker he was very ill!! Don and Ribsy were good buddies for many years- they always seemed to pick up a conversation from the last time they had been together. A sign of sincere and good friendship.
The many times we visited the Bowyer home we were made to feel so welcome. We truly will miss Ribsy – as we miss Bubs- they were such an endearing couple. The end of an era, that enables us to look back, with many happy memories.
Thinking of your family with sincere sympathy. Don and Marlene

I wish to offer sincere condolences to the Bowyer family for the passing of Bob Bowyer.
I had the pleasure of knowing “Ribsy” as a student of Maple Ridge High School. He was a Bowyer, so he was a good athlete. Name the sport..he was outstanding..and I will always remember his winning home run in the 12th inning the day Hammond defeated Haney 5-4 on opening day at Telosky Stadium in 1951.
He was a fun guy to be around and a great teammate, supportive of those younger and not as gifted as he was.
He will be fondly remembered by many.
Jim Robson.
