Iris, I was so sad to hear about Dave and I send my deepest condolences to you and your family. As so many others, I was proud to know Dave as a friend and a colleague. I got to know you both at the same time when Dave came to work at Dome shortly after I did. As I was a single man in those days I was cultivating as many married friends I could get who were willing to occasionally invite me to stay for supper. I remember your new home in Calgary and you starting your family there. You were friends I introduced my fiance Karen to. Daves career and mine paralelled each others for quite a few years and we even worked occasionally at the same company after Dome. As our careers slowly separated, somehow we seemed to always bump into each other somewhere. Although I hadn’t bumped into Dave for the last few years, I would inquire about him through the aviation grapevine, so I at least knew what he was doing workwise and felt assured that we would one day cross paths again. Dave was not just another guy that you work with. He was a friend I worked with and a cherished friend at that. I will miss him.

Iris and family, I often think back to the Dome days and working with Dave in Tuktoyaktuk. I remember crashing at your place in Calgary when I couldn’t get home . I still appreciate your hospitality from then. I hadn’t seen or talked to Dave since those days but I was always proud to hear of his accomplishments, just because I knew him. I will always have good memories of Dave.

I have been overwhelmed by the entry’s that have been left here for Dave and his family. I met Dave 10 years ago, one thing that has always stood out to me was when I asked Jaci “What do I need to know about your dad” before my first dinner at there house. Jaci said “Don’t worry about my dad. Worry about my mom” That I soon learned was what Dave was made of, patience love and understanding. I am grateful to have known him for the short time I did. I will never forget your smile your laugh and the way you made me comfortable no matter what. Being part of the Warke family has been a blessing in disguise. I had lost my way Family wise and began to think that family wasn’t the most important thing in life. The Warke family has shown me that family once again is very important and vital to our survival. I have never seen a family come together as the Warke’s did over this sad time. Dave I never had the chance to tell you what you meant to me, no I did have the chance but didn’t take it and I regret that each day. Dave rest in peace I know your sitting up there with a beer in one hand and a wrench in the other. I will never be the person you were but I promise that I will do my very best to come close. Lastly I need to acknowledge the rest of the Warke family, Jaci, Ray and jeff for how they came together as a family to help Iris and others through this difficult time.

I am so grateful that I was given the gift of having Dave be such big part of my life. Over the last four years he has been someone I looked up to, valued his opinion and loved being around. Ray and I, always looked forward to the day he would come home.. to hear the funny stories and pictures he would have. Dave always took great pleasure in teasing me; he got a real kick out of how gullible I am.. I don’t think I ever had the courage to tell Dave how much I loved him, and how much he meant to me. I am thankful for the time I have had and will continue to have with the Warke family, that goes without saying he will be missed more than words can express.
To one of the best Husband, Dad and Grandpa I have ever met! Cheers.

My sincerest condolences to the Warke family; I regret I could not attend the memorial in person.
Dave was my supervisor when I began my aviation career at Helijet in 1996; he was always good for a laugh and reminded me that everyday is an opportunity to learn something new.
Dave had the best “stories” about working overseas, and it seemed to me then that the background story was usually more interesting than the work! 15 years later, I realize everyday that he was right.
God’s speed, Mr. Warke.
sincerly,
Jeff Nagy

Since my first interview with Dave prior to joining his last job post at SFS, I had a very good impression about him. I found him honest, enthusiastic, and willing to work with the management on company’s big picture….the type of person a small developing company like SFS need. His passing is a real shock for me because Dave was truely becoming a big contributor to the development of a small company such as SFS. His teacher-background was reflected in the good ‘mentoring’ relationship he had with his Thai staff. He was always professional in all his thoughts, decisions, recommendations, and actions. Ultimately, without Dave, SFS would not have become the first company in S.E. Asia to operate offshore AW139.
My heart goes to Dave’s friends and family. All of us at SFS will miss him.

Dave and I shared some time at BCIT while teaching our trade to the newbies in aviation. We shared that love of things that fly and we sometimes would run into each other at one of our other favourite things. The blackjack table. As he was friends with my niece Patrice, I would also see him at some family gatherings. We sometimes exchanged emails and it was always interesting to see where in the world he was working. I recently found a photo that had a group shot of the staff at BCIT’s Aviation Campus and there is Dave in the back row right behind Trevor Castle. It’s hard to accept that he has left us but I’m sure he is flying on the ultimate level now. My condolances to Iris and family.

To Dave’s family my deepest sympathies for your loss.
Dave and worked for the same company (Okanagan Helicopters) and way back, sometime in the 80’s, Dave and I flew a Sikorsky S76 from Shanghai to Bombay, India via Hong Kong (on a boat to Singapore)then Bangkok, Rangoon, Calcutter, a couple of other small refuelling stops which I cannot remember, and on to Bombay. we flew with another S76 piloted by Glen Patterson – not sure who the engineer was on that machine.
The thing I remember about Dave was he had a great sense of humour and although he was not a pilot he had a great pair of hands and hogged all the flying I could give him on route. I think I almost had him hovering on landings. Since then I have only met him a few times but we always remembered that trip as some thing special.
We’ll all miss him.

For David Warke
I first met my ‘cuz’ in 1955 when he and his sister, Cindy, and their folks returned from Caracas. He was born 5 days before my ‘little’ sister, Janet, and because of that they had a special bond. I was 5 yrs. older than them and, as such, didn’t have much to do with Dave while he was growing up.
However, I DID see a good kid in his younger days become a ‘solid’ student at Queen E. in Calgary who then went on to S.A.I.T. to learn how to work on ‘choppers’. (No! Not Harleys!!!)
Dave’s father, grandfather, and one of his two uncles (on his dad’s side) were all petroleum engineers, but this was not Dave’s path. He chose helicopter systems and went on to become an expert in ‘his’ domain as the others were in the oil patch.
I still remember the love & pride in his dad’s & his granddad’s eyes as they related to us how Dave had been chosen to go down to Cornell University in the U.S. to learn about a new model of Sikorsky that had just ‘come over’ from Europe. Like his forbearers, Dave is still remembered by those he worked with – at H.B.O.G. (in ‘Tuk’), STARS Air Ambulance (in Calgary), and Okanagan (all over the world!) and in the lower mainland, where he built up his own business – twice!
Throughout his life, as a young man, a husband, a father, a grandfather, Dave demonstrated a love of family & friends, a great sense of humour, and integrity in dealing with others. He earned the respect of all who knew him.
When Janet phoned me earlier this week to tell me the tragic news, all I could think was, “Too soon! Too soon!”
Over the past few days, as ‘the news’ has sunk in, I’ve been reminded of the slogan: “You can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your family.”
To that I would say, “If I could have picked my family, David Warke would have been at the front of the line!!!”
We’ll all miss you, Dave!
In loving memory,
Ron Hair

He also cared about all the people that came into his life and when you were around him you never had a doubt otherwise. Dave was the kind of person that they were talking about when they say “the world would be a much better place with more people like him” I know that he is the kind of man that I look up to with the way he truly loved life and the way he treated people with such kindness and the impression that he left will never be forgotten.
