I called my son, Martin, to tell him about Morris’ passing. Martin of course had many wonderful memories about a wonderful man, Morris. Morris would, upon being visited, drop everything his very busy hands were doing, to show a young boy the ins-and-outs of woodwork. Morris would show Martin how the wood is heated and bent, how the fabric is applied, and the secret formulas applied to the beautiful canoes he built and repaired. We became friends. We would canoe Harrison Lake, the Fraser River, and other local water-ways. Morris was generous in mind an deed. I remember when his beloved dog, Chief passed away; I’m not sure Morris ever recovered from that. I know Edith and Morris’ family will never recover from their loss, either. It was a privilege knowing Morris. I still treasure the guitar stand, and the seat he built me. We’ll meet again, of course, in a happier place.
