My Dearest Masterslim:
Uncertain of why this showed up in my Newsfeed.. That is just the Creators’ way of showing me that you are always with me, ‘IN SPIRIT’.. I am going through so much, mentally, physically, and spiritually. It offers me strength when i see pictures of you, it serves as a self reminder, with everything that you went through, and what i go through is nothing compared to you, the struggles that you did not show anyone.. Peanut once in awhile, will throw herself down at your bedroom door upstairs, sniffing under the door… waiting for it to open, sometimes she just randomly runs through the house, the same thing that you did when you two used to horse around.. Our granddaughter, Jennica Rose, is absolutely beautiful, i love how she walks around like she is holding someones’ hand, meanwhile, it is just me and her in the house… Your big day is coming upon us so fast, there is still quite a few of our adopted children that shed tears for you, and they let me know how much you are missed. “Top o’ the Stairs’ you should hear me and the kids jam out to that song, when we hear it… the best feeling ever… I know you are by my side, during difficult times in my life, this loneliness kills me inside, but i get over it, i shed tears, than all of a sudden, i think of all those crazy memories that we shared. That heart to heart talk we had with each other, still comes to my mind, .. I take one step at a time, as much as i want to rush into finding happiness, i bring myself to a halt.. Only the Creator knows when that time will come…. It is true, memories last forever, honestly, they do… I love you Mr. Sam, i think of you often, nobody shall ever ‘take away’ the spot that i have for you in my heart.. Gone but not forgotten, Missed by too many to name.. Love ya’ whole bunches, <3 <3

A year has already passed by, without you at my side, there Masterslim. During the 2015-2016, it was the longest 10 months of my life, carrying out Traditional Blessings/Opening Prayers for various schools.. I lost tract of your affiliates, i made it up to 37 organizations that you were involved with over the last 20+ years… I took pride, when i spoke of you, and i knew for a fact, that you were with me in spirit. Some of the events were a challenge, but i made it through. It was only in April of 2016, that i will still receiving gifts from various close friends and family, . Your legacy definitely lives on, through myself and of course, your children. Nobody will ever be able to fill your shoes… even if you put 4 of us together.. Gone but not forgotten.. You are missed by so many.. Now Mr. Sam, please continue on with your journey, continue on to watch over, guide and protect us throughout our journeys, It is going to be another busy school year for me.. I am truly blessed with the most precious and beautiful Angel in the sky.. PS: I wear your canoe and paddle necklace with ‘GREAT’ pride.. I define that as me, being on a solo journey… O’siem, All my Relations…..

Dear Mr. Sam, *i have no idea why this ‘popped’ up in my newsfeed.
I read all the ‘personal’ messages, with tears in my eyes, from dear friends of my late husband. It is a trail that i continue on to walk alone, but i know for a fact that you are at my side, no matter what i do, i have been asked on many occasions (kind of tiring also) with the many, colleagues, delegates, organizations that you were affiliated with. I participated in 7 events in 9 days “Sambo” how on earth did you do this? . I continue on those trails, organizations have paid tribute to you, and many more of those will happen. Thank you all for offering your condolences for myself, my children and also our precious granddaughters, Joleah & Jennica) . Maybe it was meant for me to see these, to serve as a reminder, that you will always be in the hearts & minds of so many people in the Four Directions… All my relations, “Walk with Me” through this moment of darkness. I take pride that you were my husband, Love you, Miss you and think of you ever moment of the day. You are truly missed and will always be remembered … Yours truly Mrs. Sam

My condolences to Mr. Sam’s family. I remember him and his always playful smile from Hammond Elementary around 1999. I had no idea this had happened, just as I was looking around for schools for my four year old to attend, reminiscing of Mr. Sam i decided to look him up on the internet and see how he was doing. He was a great and positive man with a very powerful energy, the family should rest assured that his impact will be left for many years after his travel to the other side.

To Colleen and kids: Norris and I were shocked and saddened to hear of Dean’s passing. We are so sorry for your loss. I had a hug and a greeting from him so recently that his death seems completely unreal. I wish I had been here at the time of his service to give you my condolences in person.
What a terrible loss to you, to the Katzie community and to the community as a whole. We will all miss his positive and uplifting messages and his smiles and affectionate greetings. Dean’s memory will live on in the children upon which he had such a positive influence over the years.
A life too short, a death too soon. A good person gone.

Dear Colleen – Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your children at this difficult time. We are so sorry to hear about Dean’s passing. Along with my daughters, Ariel and Joanna, I have fond memories of him from Riverside elementary school. He always had a smile and a kind word for all the kids but most particularly for those who were more vulnerable. I’m sure his gentle sense of humour and his generosity in sharing his art, stories and songs will be remembered by many children and parents.

A wonderful caring man passed through this life and left a legacy of history in drumming song to his children. His songs gave us pleasure and promoted respect for our first nations legacy. We remember him drumming in the Take Back the Streets march several years ago and drumming on the wharf in Haney. Thank you for sharing him with us.

Our deepest sympathy and condolences go out to all who are grieving the loss of Dean Sam at this time. Clearly, he was dearly loved and appreciated my many in his community. It’s hard to know what to say at times like this, but please find comfort in what it says at John 5:28 & 29 about those who we have lost like Dean … it’s as though they are “sleeping” in death, and so they are not suffering in any way. As Cheif Joseph once said: “All men were made by the same Great Spirit.” That Great Spirit is mentioned at Acts 17:27. Also be comforted by knowing that soon the earth will be a place where death will be a thing of the past as Revelation 21:4 promises, and our loved ones will be healthy and happy again. Till that time, may these few sincere words help you through the days ahead. Take care.

Deepest love to your family from Jamie, Shauna and myself. I can only guess at the great emptiness you must be experiencing. Please know that we loved Dean as a friend and admired him as a great example of a father, husband and leader both within the Katzie community and the much larger community which he influenced so positively as a loving and positive human being. Not many of us can leave this world having made such a huge contribution while being here as Dean did. I am humbled to have been with him on his journey and wish him speedy progress in his spiritual journey in the next world. Much love, Wendy.

My deepest sympathy goes out to your wife, children, and all who grieve your absence from our world. Dean was always willing to sacrifice his time to make my kindergarten and grade 7 leaving celebrations special. He shared his culture and art with many of my classes. I will miss his genuine smile and hugs. Each time I saw him in the community he always greeted me like a friend, always remembering my name and asking about my school. Dean made a difference to so many lives. I am grateful for how you have touched mine. May your spirit continue to shine over all of us.

Prayers for his family and close friends. I have always enjoyed Dean’s his gentle, calm presence and loved his drumming on Aboriginal Day’s & Aboriginal Achievement Awards (M/R). He will be sorely missed by the Pitt Meadows and Maple Ridge communities, he so openly shared his stories and songs and that was a great gift he shared with so many & what a blessing it was for so very many. He portrayed this wonderful gift to his children, who do share the songs/drums and stories, what a great legacy that is to have passed on his knowledge and wisdom and know his children are going to continue on do the same. So sorry for your loss.

Dear Mr. Sam, Your kindness, patience and ability to connect with so many children are gifts that you shared with us. You imparted your love of nature and art to so many students. You were always able to reach out to the most vulnerable and make them feel special. Your presence at Eric Langton in June touched many people and I am grateful to have had a few moments to chat with you and to give you a big hug. You will be missed….

Our family was very sad to hear the news of Mr Sam’s passing. The community of Hammond is a better place because of his First Nation teachings. We shared many special times at Hammond Elementry with him.
Watched the launching of the Dug out Canoe, experienced a fantastic dinner where the Hammond community was invited back to the long house on Warf.
He always said it took a community to raise a child. He was right .
Many blessings to the family

So sorry to hear of Mr. Sam passing, he always had a kind word for everyone and never forgot the children that he taught. Out daughter went to Riverside Elementary and always enjoyed him and we had numerous stories after school about Mr. Sam. We ran into him a few years ago in a store and he remembered Steph and gave a tug on her braid just like he always did and this was when she was 20. That means a lot that he remembered all the kids he will truly be missed by the many lives he has touched.
