Robert David (Bob) Shantz, 73, of Maple Ridge, BC died peacefully with his family at his side August 8, 2015 at Vancouver General Hospital. Bob was born June 14, 1942 in Wainright, Alberta to George and Mary Shantz. Bob attended Campion College Jesuit School and later the University of Saskatchewan where he earned his law degree. Bob practiced Law for over 44 years. Bob was a member of the BC Bar & Trial Lawyer Association of BC. He practiced law in Maple Ridge for the last 44 years where he made a lasting impact in the community while serving as a Founding Member of the Ridge Meadows Hospital Foundation, Past President of the Meadow Ridge Hospice Society, Past Vice President of the Maple Ridge Community Foundation and Past President of the Meadow Ridge Rotary Club. Bob was a tireless community volunteer giving countless hours of his time and knowledge for which he was recognized in his community. Citizen of the Year in 2014 and a five time recipient of a Paul Harris Fellow Award from his Meadow Ridge Rotary Club. In his younger years Bob enjoyed playing hockey, motor biking and boating. More recently Bob loved reading, collecting stamps, gardening and traveling. Bob is survived by his wife Irena (married in 1991) and their son Rob. Bob is also survived by his three sons, two daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren from his first marriage: Brad and Alys with children Lauren, Ethan and Kendall, Brent with Tyler and Ronan, Jon & Stephanie with Nolan and Galia. In lieu of flowers please donate in Bob’s name to the charities he loves, , , , . Service will be held at Maple Ridge Baptist Church, Monday August 17th at 11:00 am with reception to follow.
