Obituary of Doris J. Musselman

Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
October 22, 1937- January 11, 2019 A wonderful wife, mother, gramma, aunt, sister and friend suddenly left us on January 11th in Pitt Meadows, BC. To say we are heartbroken doesn’t begin to express the sadness and loss we feel. Mom was an amazing and humble lady who always put her family first and encouraged us tirelessly. For her children, Greg and Charlene, she was their biggest fans and steadfastly cheered them on. When the grandchildren came along, she did the same. The hole we feel in our hearts will last for the rest of our lives, but we are ever so grateful to have had her with us all these years. Doris J. Nevland was born in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan to hard working farmers from Norway — Terje and Linnea. When Mom started school her first language was Norwegian. She was the second of 4 children. Mom would leave the farm for the big city of Vancouver in 1956 and join Gerald Musselman on the West Coast. Mom and Dad would start their family 2 years later with the birth of their son Gregory, and 2 years later, daughter Charlene would round out their family. After a career in office administration Doris and her husband Gerry left Coquitlam, BC for retirement on Gabriola Island. They enjoyed their golden years there and often hosted family on the island where many memories were created. Mom loved to garden and take in the beauty of island living. When Dad passed away on September 1, 2018 Mom was grief stricken and tried to put on a brave face for the rest of us. Doris and Gerry had been married for more than 62 years. When Dad was in the hospital, and later the hospice, she visited him every day eventually staying with him around the clock as his journey was nearing an end. Mom leaves behind two children that adored her, Gregory (Arlene) and Charlene (Glen), six grandchildren, Matthew (Ashley), Sara (Ryan), Tia, Brody, Linnea, Amelia, a great grandson Hank, sister Linda and brother Ken and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Mom is now safely home in Heaven with Jesus! A “Celebration of Life” for Mom will be held later this Spring as we remember a life well lived. “My Heart will always be on an island near the sea.”
