Obituary of Peggy Agnes Levene

Please share a memory of Peggy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
January 19, 1928 – February 16, 2014 With great sadness we announce the passing of Peggy, our much beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. As a child she experienced the Great Depression of the 1930’s, and after her mother died she raised her two younger sisters. She took up Nursing and, soon after, met her future husband. Following marriage and the birth of their daughter Anne they moved to Jamaica. West Indies, where Peggy joined a volunteer group helping young victims of a recent polio epidemic. Sons Joel and Barnett were born in Jamaica. After thirteen years there the family immigrated to Canada, first to London, Ontario, then Calgary, and finally Vancouver (Coquitlam). Peggy was a devoted mother, a loyal wife, and an exemplary home-maker; she kept her homes spotless. Her other main interests were in growing flowers in her garden and in doing charitable work with local volunteer groups. Her happiest times were her 35 years in Calgary, where neighbours Maria and Emidio Faba absorbed her into their growing family network. In Coquitlam her health deteriorated, and she spent her last two years in Holyrood Manor, Maple Ridge. We thank the Holyrood staff for their care of Peggy, especially Belinda, Krystina and Vivienne, whose love of Peggy was manifest. A family celebration of Peggy’s life will be held shortly.
