Obituary of Genovie Elizabeth Cattoni

Feb. 18, 1928 – Oct. 20, 2018 Born in Matramindszent, Hungary, Eva immigrated to Canada in 1935, at the age of 7. She worked in the coal mine in Champion Alta. as a child and also as a janitor at the school she attended until the family moved to Lethbridge. Eva married Victor Cattoni Sr. in 1948. As a young couple, they farmed, and Eva worked as a waitress to make extra money, while Vic trained as a carpenter. The promise of work and a better life prompted the move to Haney in 1955. Although Vic’s work necessitated another move to Regina in 1962, they always felt that Haney was home and returned back to Haney in 1967. Eva was a volunteer for the Maple Ridge Hospital Auxiliary for many years. Her passion was stitching petite point pictures, stitching over 250 pictures of various sizes, to give as gifts and to adorn her walls. Eva was predeceased by her husband Victor Sr., and her son Victor Jr. She is survived by her daughter Victoria ( Larry) Ramey, son Wayne (Carolyn) Cattoni, plus five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Garden Hill Funeral chapel will reside over funeral arrangements. The funeral mass will be held at St. Patrick’s church on Oct. 30th at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Society or the BC Mental Health Society in Eva’s name.
