Shirley – we are so sorry you have lost your dear husband and best friend. We know how much joy you brought to each other. We met Lyall a few times and didn’t know him really well but we do know how loved he was by family and extended family. We hope you find peace in remembering all the happy times you had together. Condolences to all of Lyall’s family in their loss of a fine gentleman.

Oh bumpa, my bumpa. What an honoured family we are to have you as our Patriarch. Your very existence exuded kindness, optimism, grace, joy, love, humor and forgiveness. Not to mention courage, and the ability to smile, even on the worst days. You reminded us always that it’s a beautiful thing to smile. And that even on our worst days, the sun will rise again tomorrow with a chance for a brand new day.
Thank you. Thank you for your gifts to us. Thank you for being the quietly proud, yet humble Lyall Holmes. Thank you for teaching us to never stop playing, never stop adventuring, never stop living. Thank you for the twinkle in your eye, even during the most frustrating times. …like the time i took a permanent marker to the woodcarved birds you’d spent so much time on. For being there no matter what. Even though hundreds of miles separated us, you never missed an opening night, or important surgery, or milestone. Thank you for teaching us family.
You have always been and will continue to be a pillar of love and joy and laughter for our family.
So long my darlin
