Obituary of Lyall Ross Holmes

May 18, 1935 – July 27, 2013 Lyall R. Holmes passed away peacefully on July 27th, 2013. He was born May 18th, 1935 in Padstow, Alberta. Lyall grew up in the Queen Charlottes, New Westminster and Maple Ridge. After serving in the RCAF Lyall obtained a degree in electrical engineering from UBC. He then went on to a successful career with BC Hydro. He was an avid outdoorsman who possessed a unique love for life. Lyall was also a proud member of AA for over 32 years. He enjoyed many pastimes with his family such as camping, fishing, woodworking, playing cards and bird watching. He had a great sense of humor and was always up to another adventure. Lyall lived for his family and was a caring and loving father to his daughters Linda (George) Szilagyi, Susan (Charlie) Marshall and Deanna (Boy) Kayona. He was also a loyal and generous Grampa to his nine grandchildren: Jennifer, Amanda, Kristopher, Daniel, Melyssa, Thomas, Jordan, Lisa, and Jillian, and six great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his parents, Ross and Alice, and his first wife Gwen, the mother of his children. He leaves his wife Shirley, and will be missed by his brother Don (Jean) Holmes, sister Pat (Brian) Hooker and, an uncle, Jack Jacobson and two aunts, Norma Jacobson and Nan Jacobson; and many loved nieces, nephews and friends. A big thanks to Dr. Tinney, Dr. Mawani, the nurses, staff and volunteers at hospice who provided Lyall with the most respectful and loving care. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Ridge Meadows Hospice Society. A celebration of life will be held 1 pm on August 9, 2013 at Garden Hill Cremation & Funeral Services 11765 224th Street, Maple Ridge. He will be dearly missed and remembered with a smile.
