On March 2nd Esther passed away at the Ridge Meadows Hospital. Esther was born in Dawson Creek, B.C. and moved to Vancouver in 1938; then to Maple Ridge in 1958. At the age of 21 in 1954, she was seriously injured in an automobile accident, and as a result has been confined to a wheelchair for that last 57 years. She was predeceased by her parents and is survived by her sister Melva Leppa and cousins in Canada and Finland.

A celebration of Esther’s life will be held on March 8th at 2pm at her home. Special thanks to the many “home support staff” who cared for Esther over the years.

The Britannia High School Class of 1951 wishes to express our condolences to the family of Esther Holpainen.

We all have many happy remembrances of our high school years, and Esther was certainly a part of those memories. This year marks our 60th anniversary of our graduation from Britannia. We will sadly be remembering our classmates including Esther who are no longer with us.
