Harry and I are saddened to hear of Sandy's illness and death. We send condolences to Sandra. In the early 1970s, we both worked with Sandy at a youth correctional centre in Shawbridge, Quebec. He was an ocean of calm, good sense, and humour, especially in difficult situations. So respectful of young people and staff. After moving to Victoria, we heard of his steadfast, excellent leadership as Director of Covenant House. When I last visited Sandy in Vancouver some years ago, I was struck by the mutual respect present when Sandy introduced me to the people and work of Covenant House. When I became a professor of social work and policy, often I would used the experiences and approach to working with young people that I learned from Sandy. He will not be forgotten.
