IN LOVING MEMORY OF A LIFE WELL LIVED

Thomas “Steve” “Tom” Verner Stevens, 82, passed away on April 28, 2023.

Tom was the son of Elsie and James Stevens, born on October 30, 1940.  He was the 2nd youngest of 9 children.

Tom was an electrician by trade and a veteran of the Canadian Military where he spent time in the Royal Highland Regiment, The Black Watch.

Tom wore many hats; son, brother, husband, dad, friend but his most well-known title was Grampy.  Even people who were not his grandchildren called him Grampy because if you had a child that met him, he was introduced as Grampy and that became customary as to how he was referred.

Tom was predeceased in death by his mom, Elsie; his father, James; his wife, Jacqueline; his brothers, Sidney, Earle and Leslie; his sisters, Betty, Kathleen and Millie; and his second partner in life, Louvain.

He is survived by his sister Lucy; his brother, Donnie (Donna); his children Rosemarie, Andrew (Donna), Benoit, Brenda (Ryan), Claude (Kim), Tammy (Bryan); by his grandchildren, Laura (John), Tina (Ed), Amy (Terrance), Kyle, Ashley, Tommy, Andrew, Holly, Brandon, Hailey, Terra, Marshall and Jacob; his great grandchildren, Jaydon, Carly, Jocelyn, Eathan, Declan, Mila and Hayden; and his step children, Krista (Troy) and Shayne (Jennifer) and by many additional family and friends who will miss him immensely.

Being a grandpa came naturally to Tom.  He loved his grandkids with all his heart; they loved his charisma, easy-going nature, sense of humour and that he was a “badass”.

“He may have been old, but he was still cool as shit!”

Tom was a hard worker who liked to spend his spare time playing crib and poker, gathering with family at Monday Night Football, hitting up the local casino, baking cookies and watching all those classic tv programs such as The Young & The Restless, Matlock, Bonanza and the Andy Griffith Show.

Tom’s family and friends are invited to share happy memories and to celebrate Tom’s life in the way he would want to be remembered – as a loving and caring man who enjoyed life. A celebration of life will be held at Garden Hill Funeral Home at 2pm on Friday, May 12, 2023 followed by a short reception.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Rheumatoid Arthritis Society in Tom’s name as Tom knew firsthand through his late wife’s struggles what a debilitating disease this is.
