Obituary of Cornelis Sluis

Sept 1, 1923 – July 11 2016 Passed away peacefully in Ridge Meadows hospital with son John by his side after a bout with pneumonia. Corne was born in Oostburg Holland & immigrated with his family to Canada in February 1924. The family made their way across Canada until finally settling on McQuarrie Rd in Pitt Meadows in March 1929. Here the Sluis family started a successful dairy farm where Corne lived all his life. There was a fire in the family farmhouse in November 1957 where his father (Lammert) & nephew (Pieter) perished. Corne is also predeceased by his mother Anna Hedrika (1984). Corne was married to Vera in 1979. The couple had a great life together until her passing in December 1993. Corne loved to sit on his bench on the dyke & overlook his farm in Pitt Meadows, getting a ride from Wayne so he could pick up his eggs from Pam at the Co-op on Tuesdays; visiting Maple Ridge Chrysler to get a hotdog on Saturdays, as well as reading the Sunday Funnies in the Province. Surviving Corne are his cherished friends & family including Rusty Tremblay, Murray Range, Wayne & Janice Elkerton, Gary & Noreen Hunter, Kathy & Bill Brett, Tina (Mario & Gaetano) Zuzolo, Brad (Ashley) Lindsay, Wayne Lindsay, and Son John Molley. On Friday, July 15, 2016, please raise a glass to the kindest & most wonderful man that we may have ever known. Cheers Pops, I’ll see you when I see you….love your son John Funeral Service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, July 15 at Garden Hill Funeral Chapel, 11765 224th Street, Maple Ridge. Interment will follow at the Maple Ridge Cemetery. Refreshments to follow the graveside at 18868 McQuarrie Road, Pitt Meadows.
