TRIBUTE TO ALF
Alf was about as great an uncle as a person could have. Remembering back to my childhood days, alf was always busy doing something. Back in the Dartford days, his projects when not repairing watches and clocks included building from scratch two boats, not dinghies, boats! loafer 1 and loafer 2? Over the years, he had all sorts of interesting hobbies from casting his own down rigger weights to doing native-style and folk art-type carvings- always using his hands with great precision, creativity and passion.
I think of him in many days gone by and remember distinctly, when not wearing a shirt and/or tie for more formal situations, he would be wearing his trademark navy mustang floater jacket and rubber boots! Especially around the boats, whether it was for a scrub-down or an excursion. His uniform when outside, it seemed.
Driving golf balls into the distance seemed to be a great way he used up energy- the Fraser was a pretty big water hazard! I wonder if he ever got any over to Langley? Certainly not for a lack of trying.
Alf’s love for boats and boating remained right up until he couldn’t, spending seemingly as much time as he could at the boathouse, taking care of his ‘ships’. The Viking blood ran deep.
I think it’s safe to say, Alf led as happy and successful life as any person in this world could have. Great family, successful and cherished business and very well-spent leisure-time. Very complete. We all should have be so fortunate. With Brigit at his side, they accomplished so much and have led such fulfilling lives and raised two lovely daughters.
I have a lifetime of memories too numerous list to give anyone who never met him, due credit.
I believe anyone fortunate enough to have known Alf is a better person for having him their orbit, I know I am. It might be awkward to say, but I congratulate Alf for a life well-lived. You got your money’s worth! may your seas be calm and the winds fill your sails. You are missed by all.

Sorry to hear of Alf's passing, what a great personality this man had. Myself and my three brothers all purchased wedding ring at his shop and or whole family frequented his little Shop in Hammond for many years starting back in the early 60's. Sincere condolences to family.

I remember as a little girl going into Hammond Jewellers with my Mom in Hammond. Your smile was always so welcome. Then we lived down the road from each other when I was a teenager and you told my Dad that I drove to fast, which I did! I got scolded for that because it came form you. I came in the store one time and with an old boyfriend and you told him that he better treat me right. Never in a million years did I think I would be working for Hammond Jewellers but it's been over 10 1/2 years now. You used to come in and visit and get batteries and it was always nice to see you. Same with your beautiful wife Birgit. Such kind loving people. Thank you for being such a gentleman. You will be missed.

Morfor! I remember being so nervous I was going to mispronounce saying your name in Danish and calling you mofo! I feel so fortunate to have had some time to get know you and your personality my husband and family spoke so highly about before things worsened. I loved your cheeky smile! We feel so honoured to have our son carry on your kind big hearted spirit and name, Rye “Alfie”! Thank you for being such a huge influence in my husbands life. Your hard work, dedication and love for your wife and family was so admirable & I will hold you close forever. I’m so happy you are free of pain and hope you are on that boat in the sunshine somewhere! Until we meet again!
Sarah

Funny to have food memories of someone - but I have those of your dad. I know I shared those with you before but I'll reshare them now. One day I am making an open faced Danish cream cheese sandwich on that thin rye bread and I immediately think of Alfie, having his lunch at Hammond Jewelers, of the same thing but his cheese is homemade. He is sitting at the stool at his watchmakers desk and his long legs are crossed. Another time I'm about to make Glogg for a recent dinner and remember shooting Aquavit with Alfie at Christmas at the store (during work hours lol). Sometimes its not the big events that you remember, but the small ones, that seem unremarkable at the time, and yet they get stamped into your memory and make your heart smile when you remember and you are connected. Alfie was such a terrific guy, beloved by so many, you must be so proud of him!

I have nothing but the fondest memories of Alfie, he was such an awesome man. I loved how he would light up everytime I saw him and say “Missy” ❤️He always reminded me that he taught me how to use a fork. I picture him in Hammond jewellers with his glasses with a magnifier on, fixing a clock. He was one of a kind and my family and I are so blessed to have you all in our lives
Rest in peace Alfie our condolences to the family

So many good memories with you, morfar. You loved life with fervour - you had so much happiness and cheer you wanted to share with us, and you delighted in every minute of it. Whether it be teaching us to fish and dig for clams around the dock, showing us the litter of ginger kittens that had made a home out in the barn, letting us watch you tinkering away at something in the workshop, schooling us at Super Mario and Duck Hunt, too many other things to list… and always with a smile and a cheeky joke. You were charming as all get-out and had such generosity of spirit. You had your fair share of challenges in life but every day you woke up and chose joy. Truly you were a one-of-a-kind human being who touched many, many lives and we are so fortunate for the time we had with you. We love you and will miss you so much.
