Obituary of John Peter Crispin
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Born 4th of November 1955 in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario
Passed on the 12th of November 2015, in Coquitlam, BC
Loving Son, Brother, Father & Friend
Survived by his son Eric and daughter Joni as well as his sisters Dona, Debra and his brother Richard.
John’s parents moved the family to Deep River when he was two. He attended St. Mary’s School and then Mackenzie High School, where he met his future wife Carolyn, the mother of his two children.
After several cross-country moves, John and his family settled in Port Coquitlam where he established a successful sign and display business. John was very artistically creative and was well respected amongst his peers. He was a caring father, with a quick mind and a sharp sense of humour. Then unfortunately Multiple Sclerosis entered his life and eventually forced him to give up his sign business and then sadly his true passion, sailing. In spite of his many physical challenges, John still managed to achieve a SFU postgraduate certificate in Geographic Information Systems as well as a Vancouver Film School certificate in Comprehensive New Media. This would have been an achievement in itself, but was all the more remarkable given that the demands of MS meant he had to endure 90 minutes of travel each way in a wheelchair to attend his courses.
For more than a decade, John designed logos and posters for several non-profit conservation and ecotourism organizations. As well he designed and managed their websites. As a colleague stated, ‘I had such immense respect and admiration for John as a professional but mostly, I admired and was humbled by the person he was. Sharp-witted, generous of his time, and patient. The way he lived his life taught me more about ‘acceptance’ than anyone I know, or likely will ever know. I am a better person for having known him.’
Now the devastating pain that tortured John these past years is gone and he is free of the torment this disease inflicted on his body, mind, and soul. At last he is at peace. We will deeply miss him and always love him.
